We measure success in the fight against NTDs at multiple levels. At the individual level, we succeed every time we deworm a child or train a community drug distributor. We can also succeed in specific field projects, such as the kick-off of a treatment campaign or the provision of clean water to a village. We also experience success at the global level, as we improve control efforts and begin to see decreases in infection rates and disease burdens.
Cumulatively, our successes extend beyond the health sector--the benefits of NTD control lead to improved intellectual capacity and economic productivity, both of which help to lead families and communities out of poverty.
